With two years of tutoring experience in a college writing center, I have developed my own style of results-driven teaching. I believe in a hands-on approach followed by slowly giving more space to the student as they begin to become independent. I begin by observing the student working so that I can identify learning strategies that could be useful to the learning process. I then use my observations to develop a plan of different learning strategies tailored to the student's need. I teach the student a variety of strategies and then work side-by-side with the student to help identify when and how to use each of the strategies. Once I feel the student has grasped using the strategies, I begin to let the student work more independently and only provide guidance when I see the student is struggling. I believe that when I tutored with this style in the college writing center, I was able to provide the students with the self-confidence they needed to become independent in their studies. In addition to working with students in writing and English, I find enjoyment in working with students in theater and public speaking. My major was in theater so I find the stage, chorus , and dance enjoyable as well.
